Things To Do In Chicago This Weekend (Jan. 10-12)

The weekend is finally here! How will you spend it? For ideas, check out our Concierge Team’s top event recommendations.

Chicago Sketch Comedy Festival (Now-Sun., Jan. 19) For two weeks, this fest turns Stage 773 into a sketch comedy oasis, making use of the entire building and featuring simultaneous performances in all three theatres. This year, you have your choice of 188 shows with 169 groups and more than 1,000 performers. Click here for a full schedule.

Ghost The Musical (Now-Sun., Jan. 19) This musical , at Ford Oriental Theatre, is based on (you guessed it) the ’90s movie of the same name– one difference being that it’s set in modern day New York City. Ticket prices range from $27-$95, but you can score half price tickets here.

Snow Trekking at Northerly Island (Sat., Jan. 11-Sun., Feb. 16) Bust out your snowshoes or your cross country skis and head on over to Northerly Island for an outdoor adventure that offers a look at native animals and birds and an awesome view of the city’s skyline.

Madama Butterfly (Sat., Jan. 11-Sun., Jan. 26) Performed in Italian with projected English text, this production at Lyric Opera is new to Chicago. For the uninitiated, Puccini’s famous opera tells the story of geisha Cio-Cio-San and her callous husband, an American naval officer named Pinkerton.

Get Fixin’ (Sun., Jan. 12) Get in touch with your inner artiste at the Get In, Get Art series at the Beverly Arts Center. This particular session includes a Broken Workshop that repurposes those items you just can’t throw away –despite the fact that they’ve seen better days– by transforming them into works of art.
